New Light on the United Nations (U.N.) (Scarlet Beast)

there appears to be "new light" in the latest watchtower magazine (june 1st 2003 issue).

several watchtower publications for the last 50+ years have said that the united nations (u.n.) organization ("the scarlet-colored wild beast" of revelation) would definitely be the organization that will carry out jehovah's judgment on "babylon the great" (false religion), and then, under satan's [gog of magog's] direction, the united nations organization would become "greedy", and try to attack the remaining remnant of the "anointed" jehovah's witnesses and their companions, the "great crowd" of "other sheep", and then jehovah and jesus would destroy the united nations organization, along with everyone else who was not a jehovah's witness.

I've thought for a long time that the King of the North/King of the South prophecy of Daniel was about the Seleucids and Ptolemys around the 2nd century BC especially Antiochus IV.

Again my personnal view is that the descriptions in Revelation of Babylon the Great are talking about Rome and the beast would be Emporer Donatian (81-96 AD) who was viewed as Nero reborn because of his persecution of Christians. Rev 17:18 "And the woman that you saw is the great city which has dominion over the kings of the earth." RSV. Why 'Babylon the Great'? Well Babylon had destroyed Jerusalem in 587BC and Rome (an even greater power) was the next to detroy it in 70AD.

I cannot see any reason to apply these 'after the event' prophecies to modern times.

The quote "As world events unfold in fulfillment of Bible prophecies, we will gradually get an ever clearer picture [of who will attack Jehovah's Witnesses at Armageddon]." shows me what I've thought about the WTS for a while. It is much easier to prophesy something that has already happened. Maybe they are learning this.

You say that using the 'Babylon the Great' book plus a few others you can prove the Chaldean dynasty lasted for 87 years from their own publications. Do you have the page references of this and the other books??

I recently had a conversation with an older JW relative about 607/587 and the result was he gave me the Aid book and Insight book with reference to the sections on Chronology. It would be great to prove him wrong from their own publications rather than my 'worldly' publications!!!

WT Storm Troopers Good news Bad News

bev vigo and peter ellis of the uk stormtroopers ,sorry service department have to make the report concerning the inactive publishers campaign to brooklyn in the next two weeks, infact all boe's have to send the report to the co by this saturday, and his report has to get to bethel by next wednesday.

the word coming through from the travelling overseers so far is that the report will be a bit of a mixed bag.

bad news, even though the local boe and the co's will no doubt jazz it up a bit, it seems that the uptake for ones being reactivated will be very low, probably those who still attend meetings but don't report will be persuaded to do the "odd hour" but the long term cynics are not interested.

The elders have been round twice but fortunately I've been out each time.

After more than 10 years out of the org and having sorted everything out with family members still 'in' I'm getting really annoyed that I may have to deal with these visits.

i got an email from a jw who tries to prove to me that the isaiah and daniel prophecies were accurate.. since i never got over genesis maybe someone with more knowledge of bible "truth" can help me debunk that nonsense.. he sent the following email:.

So in his email he says:

The Jewish historian Josephus indicates that the book
existed before the time of Artaxerxes (probably
Artaxerxes III, who began reigning about 474 B.C.).

This is yet another JW chronological error. Artaxerses I began ruling in 464 B.C. and his name is also in the Egyptian Kinglists in the Twenty Seventh Dynasty as ruling Egypt from 464 - 424 B.C. The JW's choose 474 B.C. to fit their 70 weeks of years prophetic interpretation and there is no historical evidence for this date.

A bit like them choosing 625 B.C. as the year Nebuchadnezzar's became King of babylon and not 604 B.C. as supported by absolute chronology.

Rather than study Isaiah and Daniel verse by verse, they should start with a study of the actual history of the Chaldean and Achaemenid Dynasties of the Near East. Then they may get a proper application of some of these verses.

Every week or so something on this board jumps out at me and gets me thinking about things in a different way. That is what makes this board so valuable. A couple of sentences in your post just did this.

The spirit-begotten and their companions, highlights that the "great crowd" are second in time and importance with God according to the WTS. Have you ever thought that the 2 folds were the Jews, then the Gentiles but all spirit-begotten?

I honestly had never thought about the great crowd and other sheep in this way. It just shows that for every JW doctrine there is usually a more logical alternative. This gives me something else to research now.

I agree with Nicolaou, Thanks Blondie!

I always read your 'Comments' thread. The watchtowers sound even more tedious than they did when I last went a decade ago.

Your comments express how I used to feel about these 'studies'. The main thing that made me decide to leave wasn't doctrine or science but the constant 'holier than thou' attitude in these articles.

I did hear of a brother at my old Kingdom Hall who stormed out of the Watchtower study a few months ago shouting "Why are we always blowing our own trumpet?" They were studying an article about how much better the society's morals were compared to the rest of the world. Unfortunately the Watchtower conductor for the last 20 years or so had just been disfellowshipped for having a 15 year long affair with a sister in another congregation.

Anyway Blondie, keep up the good work!

no jw's have been to my door for years because they all know where i live - my mom drives by with her "car group" and points out our house, even stops to use the potty or get a pop.

silly - i know, but mom doesn't seem to care about the shunning thing (thank goodness).. anyways - hubby and i have bought a new house and will be moving out of this congregation's area soon.

it's a brand new house in a new area so i'm sure it'll get worked fairly quickly (new blood on the block).

Good point JeffT, just ask them if Christ is their mediator.

You could also print off the paragraph with the generation doctrine change from Nov 1 1995 Watchtower, read it to them and ask them how they really felt when they first read it.

You could always ask them who now is the King of the North? or how long is a creative day? or which blood components can they / can't they have? why did 'righteous' man Lot have sex with both his daughters? what year was Jerusalem destroyed by the Babylonians? etc etc...
